There are some problems with running the binary that extracts exif so rules aren't going to change for a while.

i don't really think it's a good idea at all to put a time restriction.
plus it's unfair .. you may be able to get the time from the exif, but what about photos without exif or photos from films?!! and what for?!! to courage people to take photos for a particular competition?! come on sheriff .. you won't restrict it to 5 days before the last day of submission .. are you?!! i mean a pic taken 2 months or 5 years back are both from the archive and not taken specificly for a competition!

Sigh.  There's always one!  ;)

Do people still use film?  ;D

Yes, that's the idea.  To encourage people to go and shoot that particular topic for that particular contest.  Surely that is not a bad thing.

The time restriction will apply to the time the topic is announced up till the submission close or something along those lines.
In any case, this is moot since it is not going ahead for the foreseeable future due to "technical difficulties".

This is just a thought though and this comp may remain as an open free for all with perhaps another more controlled one.  Time and providence will tell.  :-\

I think Ned has a couple of valid points, but also think Dayo has a great concept!
Nobody's winning a new car or anything, but I know we have all witnessed things heat up over small matters. Just say the word "Competition" and heart rates accelerate ..
Perhaps having two categories may eventually be an option, maybe not! Nothing will please everyone and at some point, Dayo will have to decide and when he does, there will be some pissed off folks.. But there will also be some happy folks!
I think we should survive a couple and cultivate our ideas..
 Any thoughts?!!

Cheers! Robert..

it's not a bad thing at all .. personally i'd love to do it. but .. you can't encourage all people to do that simply cus not all of them have the time to do it .. some who have the time AND think it's worth it will do it, BUT not for every month. and the result .. less number of participants every month. that's what i THINK will happen. hope i'm wrong.

In any case, this is moot since it is not going ahead for the foreseeable future due to "technical difficulties".
what about photos without exif?! will be rejected?!
ok .. what about photos with false exif?!

This is just a thought though and this comp may remain as an open free for all with perhaps another more controlled one.  Time and providence will tell.  :-\
yes .. we are only discussing the feasibility of the idea. maybe this will save your time looking for solutions to those technical difficulties ;)

mmmmmm .. by the way .. maybe you need to find a way to ensure that the participants are the shooters of their entries. what do you think?! :D

i think we all agree on the concept. however, for that concept to be feasible it has to be fair (can be applied to all) plus it should have more pros than cons.

Nobody's winning a new car or anything
and that's why i think some may not find it worthwhile, especially those of hectic life.

Nothing will please everyone and at some point, Dayo will have to decide and when he does, there will be some pissed off folks.. But there will also be some happy folks!

speaking for myself i won't be pissed off .. it only won't be for me, unless i have the interest and time.

thanks Bob :)

I suppose we will have to ban them.  Can't have them contaminating our contest with their outdated medium.

There is a price to pay for true art and true art has never apealed to the masses  ;)

Photos without exif will be summarily deleted but anyone that goes through the trouble of faking exif for such a contest really deserves to win...least of all for their mental health's sake.  I am sure the other members wouldn't mind too much.

Technical difficulties are a challenge and whether this feature is used or not, time will be spent trying to overcome them.

Not bothered with ensuring people shot the pics themselves and have not nicked it from somewhere as they signed up to the terms before joining.

BTW Ned, you do realise you are free to enter whatever you want now and for the foreseeable future, don't you? ??? Don't worry so much about this now.  ::)

Let us meet and discuss this over some coffee and bring Al Shaikh along.

Come on folks, two days to go and only entries from two people!

Please note that holding off till the last minute for "secrecy" is not quite in the anticipated spirit of things.

We are looking for an open community here people.  Don't take this too serious please.  All the fun and pleasure goes away then.

You know who you are so go there and upload them pics!!

If my neighbour had a dog.  Don't think her cat would like a dog living there though.  The cat's so damn friendly it doesn't stay put.  It's always coming up to me for me to stroke it.  We've got a couple of goldfish, but I'm convinced they put speed in the fish food!
