A work mate wants to add another lens to he and his wife's 18-55 kit lens on a Canon XT.  They are not photo nuts at all and the reason for the upgrade is that apparently the wife will like to "zoom" more.

Not really knowing much about the Canon system, I told him to look at a 70-300 or so lens.  I explained aperture to him and told him the smaller f numbers are more expensive and tend to be bigger but that the 70-300 which I assume every system has and know there is a Sigma version, will be a decent second lens.

I thought of the Tamron 28-75 but felt the constant f2.8 etc might be lost on them since the zoom is not much more than what they have.

Any thoughts?
