At first sight, it appears the bird is walking on water but apart from that, it is not as interesting as it should be. There doesn't seem to be a critically sharp part although a very fast speed has been used. Perhaps a result of being wide open at max focal length.

I find the way one wing looks to have been chopped off a bit disturbing and just find it difficult to connect with the image.

However, I think a lower POV would probably have helped transform the shot.

I would have to agree with Dayo on this shot, I think 1/750 @f5.6 (or maybe f8 if you pushed to ISO 400) would have given sufficient speed for the shot but greater DOF bringing more into focus.

I just thought itâ???¶???¥s a humorous act.
Regarding the sharpness .. the original looks fine but not really pin sharp! Yea ,, maybe due to wide aperture, or even focusing (although the eye looks the sharpest bit in the image!).

Iâ???¶???¥m not sure if it needs more dof .. however, I think a sufficiently slower shutter would have produced motion blur on the wings which could have made this more interesting.

Dayo, sorry, but what does POV mean?

Thank you guys for your helpful comments Smile

Point of View Sorry.
I must say you did get quite low already but I suppose you should have gotten in to the water : )

By the way Ned, did you have a TC attached?

well .. in fact the CANON 20D is waterprooof .. and the sigma lens can go 100m below water level without leaking in a drop of water .. the only problem is that i can't swim ;D

No .. i th lens wasn't attatch to a TC!
actually i don't remember using the tc except for one time. i didnt like the result and it's been in it's bag since then!

I also find this humorous, especially with the title! Agreed with Foto-House about the DOF. At 1/3200, I would think you had some latitude, especially with the Canon higher ISO performance. I'm not afraid of my A100 at ISO 400.. Great capture in all. But the wings do look simply OOF as opposed to a motion blur..

Cheers! Robert..

thank you Bob for your comment and tips.
yes .. at ISO 400 the noise is well controlled on the 20D. even though for this particular pic i could go for a smaller aperture (let's say f/5.6) without the need for increasing the ISO, as foto-house mentioned.
thanks again, Bob.
